Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. She was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. She was only a young child when her father, who was an carnival barker, died. The mother of the family had to take on jobs such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth grew in a poor Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She attended school in the area. But she quit school only after two years of school to pursue an acting career. She faced many obstacles on her path to success. When she was in New York she was hired to do a photo shoot for a publication about crime however, no theatre job opportunities came up. The next position she was offered was the "hat check" girl for a nightclub but she quit and moved back to Boston. In the New England Repertory Company was the first position she held as a regular actor. Earned money working during the day as an usherette. Drama studies led her to receive a degree in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
